Meet Andrew Gee: The Artist Who Built Maison Soleil by Hand
7 min read · Updated 19 May 2026

In 1993, Andrew Gee left London for Seychelles with a sketchbook and a conviction that island light would change his work forever. Three decades later, his watercolours, stage designs, and hand-built house define Anse Soleil as much as the beach itself.
From art school to island life
After six years teaching at the local School of Art & Design, Andrew built a creative practice spanning party décor, interior design, and a thriving gallery. Guests still describe him as a fountain of stories — enthusiasm, wit, and deep knowledge of Mahé.

Building Maison Soleil in 2009
Andrew designed and constructed the house himself: tropical architecture, antiques, original artworks in every corner, green roof and wooden wings that photograph beautifully against the hillside. Four self-catering suites followed — each with its own character, none with hotel anonymity.

Gallery next door
The Anse Soleil Art Studio sits steps from the suites. Wander in, watch Andrew work, choose a silk or watercolour to take home. He is also exploring a future café-gallery vision — register interest if you would like updates.

Staying with the maker
To sleep inside Andrew’s vision is different from booking a rental. You live among his art, walk to his beach, and meet the person behind the walls. That is the Maison Soleil difference — and why guests return.
